Gun drawing called hoax

An unnamed girl took a note to administrators at Lunenburg County’s Central High School last week warning them to “be prepared for Nov. 19th,” Sheriff Arthur Townsend Jr. said in a statement.

But law enforcement officials say the note – which included a drawing of a gun with two bullets directed at three stick figures – was a hoax by the girl. The girl, who authorities are declining to identify, said she did it out of boredom.

Charges are being considered against the girl, Townsend said.

School superintendent Charles M. Berkley Jr. noted in a statement Tuesday morning the system followed protocol “and there is no reason for any uncertainty in safety for our students or staff.”

“I feel that no student or staff member are in anyway in danger and the threat is lifted with no one in any danger,” he added.

Earlier this month administrators started allowing anyone wishing to inform the system about a serious threat to be able to use a “Report a Threat Anonymously” quicklink at the bottom of its website’s main page.
