Mid-Atlantic Broadband will match donations dollar for dollar up to $4,000 between now and Jan. 8 for Central High School recently created robotics team, said Mark Bailey, the team’s coach.

The team, called the Portable Chargers, will be competing in Blacksburg and Hampton Roads in March. With the help of the Southside Virginia Regional Technology Consortium, the system secured a $6,000 grant through Mid-Atlantic Broadband.

The grant allowed for the team to be set up and covers registration for two competitions and some of its other startup expenses, but now the system is looking for additional funds to cover the rest of the startup cost and travel.
