Remembrance of soldier planned by VFW

Lunenburg County VFW Post 9954 will install a memorial stone to a U.S. Army soldier killed in action in the Civil War on or about 1865.

The soldier, wounded in combat, came to the Arvin home near Double Bridges in Lunenburg County. Here his wounds were tended in an effort to aid his recovery. However, this was not to be, and the soldier died in the Arvin home. He was buried in the Arvin family cemetery. This is the unknown federal soldier, whom the local VFW Post is memorializing. The message on the stone will be as follows:

“Here lies a union soldier known only to God. May your services to this great nation always be remembered. 1861-1865”

Persons wishing to lend support to this project my send checks to VFW Post 9954, Box 98, Victoria, VA 23974.
