The Central Lunenburg Chargers held a 20-10 lead in the fourth quarter and were on their way to a victory over the mighty Goochland Bulldogs until the team notched 14 points on the board stealing a 24-20 win over the Chargers on Homecoming night.

Central held a lead throughout the entire game, beginning with a 10-3 lead at halftime after a Benjamin Atkins field goal and Keaun Baskerville touchdown.

Goochland then tied the game 10-10, but Central’s Malik Foster answered with a touchdown late in the third quarter to gain the lead back.

Atkins would kick another field goal bringing the score to 20-10 before Goochland went on a scoring frenzy.

Central head football coach Will Thomas was not available for comment.

With the loss, the Chargers fall to 5-3 and rank seventh in the 1A East Region standings. Central only has two games left in the regular season and are secure in making the conference playoffs.

However, they will still strive to get back in the winning column on Friday when they travel to Amelia for a 7 p.m. game.
