The Virginia High School League (VHSL) Executive Committee announced Tuesday that it will begin the process of hiring a new executive director. Earlier this year, current VHSL Executive Director Ken Tilley announced his June 30, 2016 retirement after serving in the role since 1994.

“Hiring the next executive director for the Virginia High School League is a big undertaking, and the VHSL Executive Committee is committed to finding an individual who will be the best fit for the organization,” said Jim Stemple, chairman of the VHSL Executive Committee.

It is anticipated that the position announcement and online application will be distributed at the end of November, with interviews taking place in February and March, followed by an announcement of the new executive director in April or May.

The VHSL selected the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) to assist the league with the executive director search. The VSBA was selected based on its extensive experience conducting superintendent searches for Virginia school boards, having assisted in the searches for 75 of Virginia’s current 132 superintendents.

The Virginia High School League is an alliance of Virginia’s public and approved non-boarding, non-public high schools that promotes education, leadership, sportsmanship, character and citizenship for students by establishing and maintaining high standards for school activities and competitions.
