The Charlotte County Grays, Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp #1964, will meet on Tuesday at Sheldon’s Restaurant in Keysville. The meeting will begin with a “Dutch Treat” meal at 6:30 p.m., followed by a short business meeting and program. The group consists of members from Charlotte and Lunenburg counties.

A returning guest speaker at this meeting will be Henry Kidd, past Virginia division commander; past commander of the army of Northern Virginia; past commander of the A.P. Hill camp; first commander of the Dearing Beauregard Camp and a nationally-known War Bet;ween the States artist.

He has many more honors, perhaps the least known being for his efforts in reaching out to the community to end prejudices against people with Confederate ancestry.

Kidd was invited to speak and participate in an international peace conference on race and social relations in Switzerland in 2002. Kidd will be speaking on his new artwork with several short stories about the war.

Any potential new members who are male descendants of Confederate veterans and are interested in studying and preserving the history and heritage of the South are always welcome at meetings of the SCV.  For more information concerning this meeting or about becoming a member call (434) 735-8415 or (434) 696-2202.
