The Southside Virginia Herb Society selected South Boston resident Alexandra Reddy, Galileo Magnet High School attendee, as the recipient of the 2016 scholarship. The scholarship recipient is selected based on an essay about what horticulture/agriculture means to their life and potential career. Influenced by her summer wildflower project, Reddy wrote, “My personal experience with plants have instilled and made an admiration for the beauty and complexity of plants and have allowed me to develop an understanding of their relevance to Mother Nature, therefore, I feel equipped to be a leader of tomorrow who strives to create a kinder, greener, more harmonious relationship with Mother Nature.” Presenter Kathy Conner Cornell challenged the seniors to take Reddy’s lead and commit some of their soul to the soil.
