The three-time Big South Champion Longwood University softball team will host an August ID Clinic on Aug. 20 at Lancer Field.

The clinic, open to athletes entering grades 8-12, is designed for serious, committed softball players who wish to enhance their skills for the next level. There are only 40 spots available, and the registration fee is $125.

During the camp, which will run 9 a.m.-5 p.m., athletes will go through the training, drills and challenges college athletes participate in. The training sessions will consist of defensive and offensive sessions along with a scrimmage.

The clinic will provide experience for campers and the opportunity to learn from college athletes, including current members of the Longwood softball team. In addition, campers will have the opportunity to gain one-on-one instruction from 2015 and 2016 Big South Coach of the Year Kathy Riley.

With more than 600 victories in her career at Longwood, Riley has thrust the Lancers onto the national stage with three NCAA Regional appearances in 2013, 2015 and 2016 and winning the Big South Championship in all three of those seasons. Longwood has never posted a record below the .500 mark under Riley and has reached 20 wins 18 times, 30 wins 11 times and 40 wins three times, including last year’s 40-20 record that advanced to the program’s first NCAA Regional Championship game.

For more information on the clinic, contact Lancers Assistant Softball Coach Kayla Miller at or (434) 395-2554.

Longwood University baseball’s coaching staff will host its 2016 Fall Baseball Clinic for all current high school players 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 25 at Buddy Bolding Stadium.

Attendees will receive instruction from Longwood’s coaching staff on hitting, defensive and pitching skills. The clinic will include a pro-style workout complete with the 60-yard dash, defensive showcase, batting practice and a minimum of one scrimmage for each participant. The cost of the camp is $125 for players who will register as a position player or a pitcher and is $150 for two-way players who will register as both a position player and pitcher. Same-day registration will run 8-9 a.m. Meals will not be provided.

Campers are required to wear baseball pants, spikes (plastic, rubber or metal), tennis shoes or turfs.
