An ornament for the mansion

Linda Clark, of Victoria, shows off her winning Christmas ornament which is on its way to be displayed on the Holiday Tree at the Governor’s Mansion in Richmond. Clark is the winner of a Lunenburg County Historical Society and Lunenburg County contest to select a custom-made ornament to be placed on the mansion’s tree. The ornament is a 4-inch clear ball with an original painting of the Lunenburg Courthouse in December. The snow scene is accented with holly and red ribbon and glistening sparkles covering the ball. Clark added four charms to the piece to further represent the county: a white cutout shape of the county, red caboose, green tobacco leaf and Central High School Charger football. Kathy Watson, also of Victoria, created the runner-up ornament — a 6-inch grapevine wreath displaying a cameo of Sallie May Dooley, a mid-1800s Lunenburg resident who, along with her husband, founded Richmond’s Maymont Park.
