Points were hard to come by for the Kenston Forest School varsity football team Friday evening, and the offensive struggles helped lead to a blowout loss.

In their next-to-last football game of the 2016 season, the Kavaliers fell 41-7 to visiting Portsmouth Christian School.

The Patriots jumped to an early 14-0 lead, and Kenston Forest rallied numerous times in the second and third quarters but could never overcome the original deficit. The Kavs twice drove inside Portsmouth Christian’s 20-yard line but came away with no points.

Freshman Elijah Warner led all Kavaliers for the game with 92 yards rushing, and he completed a 3-yard touchdown pass to junior Jeffrey Steele.

Steele had an all-around strong game, posting 37 yards receiving and 22 yards returning in addition to five tackles plus one pass defended.

Senior team captain Tripp Jones led Kenston Forest defensively with eight total tackles.

The loss dropped the Kavaliers’ overall record for the season to 4-5, but with a win in their final game, they can finish at .500 for the first time in years.

Kenston Forest, which had already been eliminated from playoff contention prior to Friday’s game, concludes its season this Friday at 7 p.m. when it hosts Fredericksburg Christian School (3-6).
