Government shouldn’t control families

Dear Editor,

I am responding to the article “Control and the election” by Frank Ruff published on Nov. 7 asking who should control our family’s life, the government or us. I agree that if the government controls our ability to protect our family, it limits our ability to defend against a corrupt government.

The government has the responsibility and right to monitor the citizens it represents. However, I believe the government should not interfere with families and how they are controlled. The way our family’s life is controlled should be up to us, not the government. According to the First Amendment, we have the right to our certain freedoms, so the way our families are controlled should be one.

What the government should control are laws, public goods and the military. People’s choices should not be constrained by the government.
