One topic of discussion at the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors’ meeting, set for Thursday at 6 p.m., will be how to fill the vacancy for the District 2 Supervisor seat created by the death of David Wingold in February. Supervisors have 45 days from the initial vacancy of a seat to fill it.

District Five/Loves Mill Supervisor Edward W. Pennington said a date had not been set for an official appointment to the position, but noted there has been interest and discussion regarding the vacancy.

Pennington said there will be discussions during the meeting regarding the vacancy, and he’s not sure if a vote will be called to appoint an interim supervisor.

“We are trying to fill the position as soon as possible,” Pennington said when asked if the board could vote on the appointment Thursday.

Discussion of two conditional use permits for property owned by Edward and Patricia Crowling, which have been considered by the planning commission, has been tabled until further notice.

The Crowlings’ permits request to use the property as a short-term rental property and as a wedding venue.

The planning commission voted in late February to recommend the supervisors deny a conditional use permit for the wedding venue and voted to recommend the board approve the permit for the short-term rental property with conditions on the application.

The Virginia Department of Transportation will present its Secondary Six-Year Plan which will be discussed during the meeting, and departments will present their respective fiscal year 2017-18 budget requests.

The meeting will be held at the courthouse in Lunenburg.
