The Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) held its annual State Conference on March 24-26 at the Hotel Roanoke.

According to a press release, Milly Casey, of Gasburg, Nancy Avery, of Alberta, Nancy Turner, of Kenbridge and Merny Erby, of Victoria, members of the William Taylor Chapter, joined Daughters from 132 other DAR chapters from around the state.

“William Taylor Chapter was honored with a first-place award for Outstanding Chapter Contribution to the Historic Kenmore Committee,” officials said.

“The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. With more than 177,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world’s largest and most active service organization … The William Taylor Chapter’s local membership is made up of women who live primarily in Brunswick, Lunenburg and Mecklenburg counties.”
