The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution Thursday extending condolences and sympathy to the family, friends and loved ones, as well as honoring Supervisor David Wingold Sr. who died Feb. 9.
The resolution noted Wingold’s service representing the Brown’s Store District starting in 2007 after being appointed to fill a vacancy before being elected to serve two more terms for a total of 10 years.
“Supervisor Wingold always demonstrated dedication to his elected position, love for his family and respect for his colleagues and friends,” the resolution stated.
The resolution recognized Wingold’s great sense of humor, a contagious laugh and a lot of pride for his hometown of Kenbridge.
Prior to the resolution being presented to Wingold’s family, Lunenburg County Commissioner of Revenue Liz Hamlett sang the National Anthem in honor of the late supervisor.
Wingold died following infected-related complications that came after a surgery to repair a fractured vertebra. He had spent the last two years as chairman of the board, according to the resolution.
In February, Plymouth District One Supervisor T. Wayne Hoover said the supervisors thought Wingold was just in the process of recovering.
“We expected him to be back and cracking jokes again soon,” Hoover said. “Someone will soon take his place on the board but you can never really replace him.”
County Administrator Tracy Gee previously said Wingold didn’t like people fussing over him and that he just wanted to do his job.
The board has appointed Mike Hankins to fill the unexpired term until the November election.
