The Courthouse Market, located in Lunenburg Court House at the intersection of routes 40 and 675, is in the process of being sold to a couple from Northern Virginia looking to bring their already established business to the area.

According to Courthouse Market Owner Benita Davis, she will keep the business name Courthouse Market LLC but will only operate online, selling vintage items and antiques.

Davis said the real estate closing would occur soon.

Regarding the decision to sell the café, Davis said it was time for a change.

“There’s a time and season for everything,” Davis said. “I have two kids that are in high school … one that just earned a full football scholarship to (Virginia Military Institute), so I’d like to be more flexible with my time.”

Davis said she really loved serving the court house area because there was a limited selection of food

options in the area for those who work at the courthouse.

“They don’t have vending machines or even a water machine, so it’s kind of nice that they all kind of come over here at lunchtime,” Davis said.

She said Courthouse Market is home in many ways to the courthouse employees.

“If I’m super busy or swamped they’ll help themselves to tea, and I’ve developed nice relationships with all of those folks and I’m really going to miss them,” Davis said.

She said the reason she started the business was to help fill a void because there was nowhere for those working in the offices to eat in the area.

Davis said she’s been in the 11426 Courthouse Road location for four years.
