Central High School senior Raymond Alexander won the boys discus throw event Monday during the first day of the James River District outdoor track and field championships at Buckingham County High School.

Alexander claimed the district title in the discus throw with a 124-foot-11-inch heave that beat his seed throw by six inches. His throw was also more than four feet further than the second-place competitor.

Alexander also placed third in the boys shot put with a 39-9 1/2 throw.

Monday’s portion of the district championships featured the field events. The track events will take place Wednesday at Nottoway High School.
