Tyler charged in Thursday altercation

A Kenbridge man is charged with aggravated malicious wounding following a Thursday altercation that left the victim with lacerations from a knife allegedly wielded by the suspect.

Derrick Louis Tyler was arrested Thursday evening following an argument with another person, according to a press release from the Kenbridge Police Department.

Tyler is being held without bond, Police Chief Raymond Hite said.

Hite said in the release that police were dispatched to the area of Fourth Avenue and North Broad Street at approximately 9 p.m.

When officials arrived on scene, contact was made

with Tyler and the victim.

The injuries, Hite said, appeared to have taken place during an argument between the victim and suspect.

The victim was transported to the VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, Hite said.

The incident remains under investigation.

According to court records, Tyler is set to appear during a hearing Wednesday in Lunenburg General District Court regarding the appointment of an attorney.
