LUNENBURG — A 36-year-old Charlotte Court House man was recently convicted in Lunenburg Circuit Court on a felony charge of driving while intoxicated (DWI) and driving on a suspended license. According to a press release from Lunenburg Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert Clement, Billy Lee Dempsey III was sentenced to five years in prison with all suspended except one year and 10 months for the DWI and a period of 30 days of incarceration for driving on a suspended license charge.

“He was fined $1,000, and his privilege to obtain a license was revoked indefinitely,” Clement said in the release.

According to Clement, the incident leading to his arrest began March 12 at approximately 4:20 p.m. when State Trooper W.T. Dean II stopped Dempsey for a defective exhaust.

“Dempsey failed three field sobriety tests and was arrested for DWI,” officials said in the release. “His breathalyzer test revealed an alcohol level of 0.11.”
