The fifth annual Cowboy Day will be held July 22 in Victoria as part of the celebration of the National Day of the Cowboy from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Victoria’s Railroad Park.

“We’re planning on a big day. It’s going to be a lot of things for the kids to do and grownups and we just hope it’s not going to be so awful hot,” said Bobby Atkins, who assists in organizing the event. “We’re going to have a parade on Main Street starting at 9 a.m. and some of us cowboys are going to be on horses.”

Atkins said there was going to be three or four cowboy shootouts, one of the original “Dukes of Hazzard” cars on display and a stagecoach for people to take pictures with.

“We’ll have named cowboys there and there will be cowboys coming in there from

West Virginia, Maryland and South Carolina and so forth,” Atkins said.

Event organizer Theresa Beckett said there would be a number of other activities available.

A barbecue cook off will take place from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. and will benefit the town’s Boy Scouts.

Cowboy shootouts will take place at 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

A kid’s rodeo, free archery for those ages 9-18 and bull riding will take place from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Panning for gold, a bounce house and kid’s games will take place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Admission is $5 for the bounce house.

Horseback riding, if the weather permits, will take place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

In addition, there will also be a teepee display, tomahawk throwing demos and a live broadcast from country station WSVS.

“We’re actually going to try something called open mic,” Beckett said, “if anybody is interested in singing.” She said it would be held at 2 p.m.

Dodie Rogers, the daughter of the late singer Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, is set to be in attendance.
