The Lunenburg County Youth Baseball League (LCYBL) Majors All-Star team made its presence known Friday, winning 11-1 against the Amelia All-Stars in both its first game of the year and its first game of the State Dixie Youth Baseball Major League All-Star Tournament in Victoria.

“I was very pleased,” Lunenburg Manager Tommy Word said. “… We were hitting, putting the ball in play, (making) them make defensive plays.”

The LCYBL Majors All-Stars face the Buckingham County Youth League All-Stars on Saturday at 8 p.m.

On Friday for Lunenburg, Seth Bishop hit a solo home run in the first inning and drew two walks, leading his team with three runs scored. Jackson Sullivan went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

“We were hitting, and they weren’t,” Word said.

Hunter Word set the tone for Lunenburg on the mound in the four-inning, mercy rule-shortened contest, throwing three strikeouts and allowing only two hits in two and two-third innings.

“All my pitchers did very well,” Word said.
