David Tisdale

David Edward Tisdale known by all as “Jimmy” peacefully passed away at his home surrounded by family, hand in hand with his daughter, Cynthia. Jimmy was the youngest child born to John B. Tisdale and Nellie Taylor Tisdale. He was educated in Lunenburg County at the Trinity School where he excelled in his studies. He later joined the U.S Army and reserves. March 31, 1960 he married Julia Antionette “Net” Chatmon. Together they had three children.

Jimmy LOVED the Tisdale farm, and that’s where he remained until his death. He worked outside of Kenbridge, Virginia at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co in Petersburg, Virginia for many years. He also was employed with the Department of Corrections, where he retired in 1995 because of health issues. There he made many lifelong friends.

Jimmy was baptized as a child at Friendship Baptist Church Kenbridge, Virginia. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #214 and a member of the well-known REC Club of Lunenburg Co. Jimmy loved spending time with his family and had special relationships with each and every one of them. The apple of his eye was his granddaughters whom he affectionately called ‘the Candy Girls’ and his only grandson, Miles.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings, and his wife.

He leaves to cherish wonderful memories, daughter Cynthia Hill (Kelvin), sons Edward (Vanessa) and Sherwin. Five grandchildren, Shannon, Melissa, Tameka (Tyrone), Kayla (Derrick) and Miles; four great grandchildren, Trenton, Tyler, Jaquan and Julia; one sister Dora Carrington (Conrad), four sisters-in-law, Lillian Chatmon, Laura Sanford, Bessie Hopkins, and Doris Tisdale; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends; devoted caregivers, Gloria Jones, Sue Bell and team members of Hospice of Virginia Farmville.
