Thelma Edwards Tisdale

Thelma Edwards Tisdale, 91, entered the heavenly kingdom peacefully on March 30, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Reuben and Ethel Edwards of Lawrenceville, VA. Thelma was predeceased by her loving husband, Renison William Tisdale of Kenbridge, VA. along with brother Kennon Edwards (Frances) of Charlotte, NC., brother Robert Edwards of Stephens City, VA and sister Marie Wiltshire (Dick) of Richmond, VA. She is survived by son, Rennie Tisdale of Chesapeake; daughter Beverly Kee (Ray) of Manakin-Sabot: granddaughter, Kathryn Newsom (Matt); grandson, Alan Kreisa (Candice); grandson, Renison Tisdale; twin great-granddaughters, Taylor and Claire Newsom; and great-grandsons Austin Lacrosse and William Kreisa. Surviving are sister, Mabel Brewer (Wilbur) and sister-in-law June Edwards. Thelma was born June 17, 1926 in Brunswick County and graduated from Lawrenceville High School. She attended Mary Washington College for one year before returning home to work at Fort Pickett during WWII. She married Renison Tisdale in 1948 and together they made their home in Kenbridge where they were members of the Kenbridge Baptist Church. Thelma taught youth Sunday School, directed the youth choir and sang alto in the chancel choir for over 50 years. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed many years playing at Lunenburg Country Club and in the Southside Women’s Golf Association. In her spare time she took great pleasure in her cats, a good book, a competitive hand of bridge, her extended family of friends who resided on The Hill and of course her role as Nana. In 2005 Thelma moved from Kenbridge to Lakewood Manor in Henrico County and attended Second Baptist Church.

A funeral service was held in the Kenbridge Baptist Church on Monday, April 2 at 2 p.m. followed by burial in the Kenbridge Heights Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kenbridge Baptist Church, P. O Box 445, Kenbridge, VA. 23944.
