Six Central High School (CHS) students received scholarships through the GReat Aspirations Scholarship Program Inc. (GRASP), Lunenburg County Public Schools Superintendent Charles Berkely and a release from the program confirmed. CHS students Malik Glasgow, Chistopher Hailey, Jessica Kimball, John McGrath, Kahmell Roberts and Sara Wilson were recipients of the Last Dollar scholarships, which helps cover the cost of books, computers or other expenses often not covered by a student’s financial aid package.

The nonprofit organization distributed 152 Last Dollar scholarships totaling $149,000 to Virginia high school students who graduated in 2018. “GRASP’s goal is to ensure that every student has an equal opportunity for continuing education after high school, regardless of financial or social circumstances,” the release cited. The program offers one-on-one counseling with academic advisors in 76 schools in Virginia, including CHS, offering resources on continuing education through four-year schools and technical training.

“Many of this year’s Last Dollar scholarship winners will be the first members of their families to attend post- secondary education,” the release cited. “All have learned about the importance of continuing their educations as the next step for their future successes.” GRASP was co-founded in 1983 by state Sen.
