Raccoon not rabid

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) Piedmont Health District and the Lunenburg County Animal Control Office confirmed that the raccoon sent in for testing on June 8 was not rabid.

VDH Environmental Health Manager Ed Dunn confirmed on June 12 that the raccoon from the Town of Victoria that was tested had tested negative for rabies.

Lunenburg County Animal Control Officer Ray Elliott said that the three dogs that had been isolated due to interactions with the raccoon are not in danger.
