Below are the series of updates that Lunenburg Girls’ Softball Commissioner Tim Fowler has provided via social media:

Day 1 update (Friday, June 21):

The Darlings started the day with hot bats and jumped out to a 7-2 lead after the first inning. Clarksville would battle back and Lunenburg would find themselves down 4 as they entered the bottom of the fifth. The bats got hot again and they scored 5 to win the game 16-15. The Ponytails also faced Clarksville in the opener. They played hard, making some great plays in the field. Unfortunately, they couldn’t get the bats going and lost 10-0. Day 2 has the Ponytails playing at 2 pm and the Darlings playing the nightcap at 8 pm in Clarksville. The Angels had a bye in the first round and will play at 4 pm in South Hill. It’s going to be a great day to come out to the ballpark and watch some softball. Go Lunenburg!

Day 2 update (Saturday, June 22):

The Ponytails were first to take the field today in Clarksville vs Blackstone. Their bats came alive today and the girls jumped out to a 12-0 lead early and never looked back. Luneburg would go on to win 28-18. The Angels had the first game of the day in South Hill against Prince Edward/Farmville. With some good hitting, strong pitching and some great defensive plays, Lunenburg jumped out to a 9-4 lead. Farmville would make a pitching change that slowed down our offense. They chipped away at the lead and eventually took the lead and won the game 13-9. The Darlings would have the late game in Clarksville. They fought hard against a strong South Hill team, but came up short. Day 3 features the Ponytails and the Darlings both playing at 3pm in Clarksville. The Angels will play at 4pm and the Belles will finally start their tournament and play at 5 pm, both in South Hill.

Day 3 update (Sunday, June 23):

We waited three days for the Belles tournament to get started, and did they put on a show. If you like great pitching and defense, this was the game for you! It was a scoreless game until the 4th inning when Dinwiddie doubled to score 2. Lunenburg would battle back and score 2 in the top of the 6th inning. It would stay that way until the top of the 9th inning. Lunenburg would get some hits and along with some great base running, take a 6-2 lead. With more great defense in the bottom of the inning, they would secure the 6-2 win. The rest of the day did not go as well. The Darlings lost to Blackstone 17-1, the Angels also lost to Blackstone 12-1, and the Ponytails lost to Crewe/Burkeville 11-8. All three teams have been eliminated from the tournament. Congratulations to Olivia Moses who crushed one out of the park today! Day 4 features the Belles taking on Farmville at 6 pm in South Hill. Go Lunenburg!

Day 4 update (Monday, June 24):

The Belles lost a tough one tonight 16-9 to Farmville. They are off tomorrow and will await the outcome of tomorrow’s game to see when and who they play next.

Day 5 update (Wednesday, June 26) — by Titus Mohler:

The LGS Belles all-star team had a rematch with the Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association All-Stars and was highly competitive, taking a 9-5 lead at one point, but the squad ultimately fell 11-10.
