MAY 1 – 31

ART SHOW — The staff at Ripberger Library will hold a Staff Art Show and Share at the library from May 1 until May 31. Original paintings by Library Director, J.B. Crenshaw and Library Clerk Kathy Watson will have a display of decoupage items, watercolor bookmarks and cross stitch. Children’s Program Coordinator Connie Krupa will have acrylic paintings, jewelry art and teacup flower arrangements.

MAY 6

FUNDRAISER DINNER — Lunenburg County VFW Post 9954 will hold a fundraiser dinner on Friday, May 6, from 4 – 8 p.m. at Victoria Restaurant (dine-in or carry-out). There will be a choice of entrée plate: fried chicken breast with country gravy plate or hamburger steak with sauteed onions plate. The plate includes mashed potatoes, string beans or corn, a roll, choice of one beverage and dessert. The cost is $15.00 per plate. Pre-purchase tickets from VFW Post 9954 members, The Victoria Restaurant or call the post quartermaster Ron Misorski at (434) 321-9342.

FUNDRAISER DINNER — Fundraiser for Bill Tanner, Palmer Springs Volunteer Fire Department (PSVFD) Lifetime Member and Treasurer for more than 30 years, whose home and all of its contents were completely destroyed by a fire on March 11. Jeff Jeffress and Risin’ Smoke Barbeque along with PSVFD will host a benefit dinner consisting of barbecue pork, fried chicken tenders, baked beans, coleslaw, hush puppies, dessert and water for $10 per plate on Friday, May 6 between 5 – 8 p.m. at the Fire Department located at 1697 Palmer Springs Road in Palmer Springs. Preorders are highly encouraged by calling (434) 689-2631 or (434) 689-2661. Drive-thru pick up or dine-in options are available. All proceeds will benefit Bill Tanner.

MOTHER’S DAY SERVICE — First Baptist Church located at 821 Lunenburg Avenue in Victoria will hold services in person or by way of conference call Sunday, May 8, at 11 a.m. Rev. Beverly Holmes Associate Pastor of Cellar Creek Baptist Church will be the guest speaker. Please come out and worship with us, all are welcome. Face Masks are required.

FALCONFEST FURNITURE AUCTION — The FalconFest Furniture Auction will be Saturday, May 14 at Fuqua School’s Gilmer Gym in Farmville. Preview will start at 9 a.m. The live auction begins at 10 a.m. The auctioneer is Jimmy Carwile, Carwile Auctions. All auction items donated by Green Front Furniture. This event is free and open to the public.

MAY 15

MUSICAL WORSHIP SERVICE — There will be a musical worship service at Union Grove Baptist Church located at 2006 County Line Road in Keysville on Sunday, May 15 beginning at 11 a.m. followed by lunch at noon. The musical guest is First Go’round, from Lunenburg County. All are invited.

JUNE 5

LUNENBURG COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY — The Lunenburg County Historical Society will meet on Sunday, June 5, at 2 p.m. at the Ripberger Public Library located at 117 S. Broad St. in Kenbridge. Hostess Connie Krupa will be dressed in colonial attire and will lead a discussion of the delightful book, Mount Vernon Love Story, by popular contemporary writer Mary Higgins Clark. Through the reading and discussion of the book, you will be introduced to George and Martha Washington as the real life people that they were. To read the book before the meeting, check out a copy from the Lunenburg Library System.

KENBRIDGE CHRISTIAN CHURCH — Kenbridge Christian Church is holding one service at 10 a.m. and offering it as a drive-in service, an inside service and online service all hosted by Pastor Cameron Bailey. The drive-in worship is held in the church parking lot. The church is located at 519 S. Broad St., in Kenbridge.

GILFIELD BAPTIST CHURCH — Gilfield Baptist Church located at 11285 South Hill Road in Kenbridge will hold in person services on Sunday, April 17, at 11 a.m. with Sunday School at 10 a.m.

WILLIAMS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH — Come and worship at Williams United Methodist Church located at 4670 Longview Drive, Kenbridge. Pastor Mike Day holds traditional services each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. All are welcome.

THRIFTS CHAPEL CHURCH — Services at Thrifts Chapel Church are now open with live string music and singing by the Poorhouse Boys and preaching by Mike Johnson. Services begin at 10 a.m. each Sunday.

BETHANY BAPTIST CHURCH — Bethany Baptist Church at 5968 Plank Road in Kenbridge has discontinued dial-in access to worship services. All are welcome to attend services in person on the second and fourth Sundays at 11 a.m. Face masks are required. Bring a bible.
