The Lunenburg Lightning flag football traveled to Emporia recently for its third contest of the season. The Lightning team opened the game on offense and got on the board quickly.

With the team facing a fourth down situation at the 42-yard line, quarterback Chad Mattox broke free around the left side of the line and picked up good blocking on the way to a touchdown run to put Lunenburg up early.

The strong Emporia team quickly answered the Lunenburg score with a touchdown and extra point to take a 7-6 lead early in the contest. On the next Lunenburg offensive series, they got a repeat of the first as Mattox followed the left side of the line and raced in for his second score.

Emporia got the ball down the field again in the first half and scored its second touchdown to take a 14-13 lead at halftime.

After the half, the Lightning defense had to play short-handed and this would take a toll as they eventually gave up a pair of scores in the second half. Jordan Keyser and Mattox led the defense with several stops.

The Lightning offense only threatened once more in the second half, but Emporia made a goal line stand and the final score would be 26-12 in favor of Emporia.
