Fire Prevention Week recently took place and in recognition of the occasion, Lunenburg County Public Schools held programs at its schools with an emphasis on fire safety.

Victoria Elementary School (VES) held a program on fire safety on Monday, Oct. 5. Victoria Fire and Rescue was on hand with its fire engines so that students could get a first-hand view. The children also had an informative program inside regarding the importance of fire safety.

Jan Clarke, supervisor of operations for Lunenburg County Public Schools, spoke to the students on this topic.  Clarke is a volunteer firefighter/EMT-B with Victoria Fire & Rescue. He has 24 years experience in this area. Fifteen years of that time period he served as a professional firefighter and also worked as an international firefighter in Iraq. He has been very active in fire prevention and communicating with children the importance of fire prevention and safety.
