Lunenburg County holds 2016 Division Spelling Bee

Lunenburg County held its 2016 Division Spelling Bee on Friday at Central High School. Spelling Bee participants were Pedro Manuel, fifth-grader from Kenbridge Elementary School; Jaden Williams, third-grader from Victoria Elementary School; and Ben Currin, sixth-grader from Lunenburg Middle School. Agnes Whittle was the pronouncer for the event. After several rounds of spelling, Currin was determined the winner with the winning word being “serpentine.” Williams was runner-up and Pedro Manuel came in third.  Currin will go on to participate in the Richmond Times-Dispatch Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 12, at 1 p.m. at the Library of Virginia. Williams will represent Lunenburg if Currin cannot be present that day for any reason. The winner of the Richmond Times-Dispatch Spelling Bee will participate in the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
