SVCC bounces back with 91-82 win

The Southside Virginia Community College men’s basketball team bounced back from a lopsided defeat at Davidson CC, to top conference foe Thomas Nelson CC 91-82 on Sunday afternoon in a Virginia Community College System contest.
The win improved SVCC to 7-6 on the season.
The local team jumped out to an 8-2 lead at the 18:03 mark of the first half on an inside bucket by Jonte Harris.
Four straight treys by Anthony Harris, Tevin Holloway, Amonte Vaughan and Wally Daniel gave SVCC a 22-16 lead at the 12:05 mark.
A runner in the lane by Reggie Dennis gave SVCC a 28-26 lead at the 6:20 mark but the Gators closed the half on a 12-7 run to take a 38-35 halftime lead.
SVCC opened the second half on a 6-0 run to take a 41-38 lead on Dennis’ steal and layup at the 18:06 mark.
Five straight points by Daniel and a bucket by Harris gave SVCC a 55-50 lead at the 11:23 mark of the second half.
A rebound and putback by Jahmel Johnson at the 8:17 mark gave SVCC a 65-61 lead and the local team went on a 9-2 run to take a 74-63 lead at the 7:04 mark on a trey by Harris.
A steal and layup by Dennis at the 4:01 mark gave SVCC an 82-67 lead and the local team cruised down the stretch to the win.
Dennis led SVCC with 25 points, 10 steals and six assists in the game while Harris scored 17 points and added three assists.
Johnson scored 12 points and added six rebounds in the victory while Daniel scored 12 points and added three assists.
Devin Hinson led TNCC with 17 points while Malik White added 12.
SVCC will play host to Stillwater Christian Academy on Sunday at 1 p.m.
