Kenbridge moving forward on sewer lines for annexed area

Kenbridge is preparing an advertisement for engineering services to prepare a preliminary engineering report and environmental report for a much-desired sewer line project.

The project area, annexed in 2001, includes South Broad Street-Craig Mill Road, Forest Hill Drive, Old Plank Road, Country Lane and Tarleton Lane.

“This is a critical project for the town and I’d like to see us put a lot of effort into that so we can stay on a timeline,” Mayor Emory Hodges said at the town council’s February meeting.

The preliminary engineering and environmental report has to be completed first and funding lined up before construction can start.

“I don’t have a current construction cost estimate,” Town Manager Robyn Fowler said.

“We are asking for that in the preliminary engineering report.”

The easement documents have been drafted and are under final review before signatures are obtained, Fowler said.

She said there is also no timeframe for the undertaking, but “I believe the intent is to continue moving forward with the project and applying for funds as soon as the preliminary engineering report is complete.”
