Dear Editor,

My name is Dr. Brandy Ashman. I am the owner of Hoofbeats Equine Service in Amelia and Lunenburg Animal Hospital in Kenbridge.

I am writing to you in recognition of Animal Control Appreciation Week. My staff and I would like to personally thank Ray Elliot, pictured, of Lunenburg Animal Control for all of his endless work to save animals in our community. Elliot has a difficult job which is physically, emotionally and mentally exhausting. He never tires and has enforced the law with a smile on his face.

Unfortunately, our community has an alarming rate of animal neglect and abuse and Elliot has raised awareness, educated owners and re-homed animals that would have otherwise been euthanized due to overpopulation. He has demonstrated professionalism at every turn and we are honored to have him as a partner in animal health.

We are the voice for these animals and Elliot’s voice has been heard. Elliot has even taken money out of his own pocket to buy toys for the homeless animals at Christmas. His compassion is unwavering. I ask the members of this community to educate themselves on caring for their pets. Please spay and neuter your animals! These lives matter! When you see Elliot in the community, please shake his hand and thank him for a job well done! We appreciate you today and every day, Ray!
