On April 5, the Lunenburg Republicans held their monthly meeting at Mildred’s Meals. At the meeting, Mike Hankins gave a report on activities within the Fifth Congressional District, including a fundraiser on Saturday, April 23, the State Republican Convention and the Fifth District Convention. Del. Tommy Wright gave a report on actions in the Virginia House of Delegates and Sen. Frank Ruff gave a report on bills that were passed by the Virginia Senate. Sen. Tom Garrett and Jim McKelvey are both seeking the Republican nomination for the Fifth Congressional seat ,which will be open with the retirement of U.S. Rep. Robert Hurt. Both Garrett and McKelvey gave their plans on what they would do if elected for the seat in November. The next meeting of the Lunenburg Republicans will be on May 5 at 6 p.m. at Marino’s in Victoria and all Republicans are invited.
