Seven Chargers take first-place finishes

Seven Central High School varsity track performers recorded first-place finishes individually at their first two meets.

On the girls team, Zhakiyyah Hurt placed first in the triple jump on Monday at a meet held at Nottoway High School. Randolph-Henry also participated in the meet.

Morgan Hall also won first place in the 1,600-meter run at the Nottoway meet.

The girls team took third place in the meet with 23 points, while Nottoway (69) placed first and Randolph-Henry (49) placed second.

In the girls’ first meet of the season on March 23, Central placed second with 19 points. Host Amelia won first place with 87 points.

During the boys meet on Monday, Nottoway took first place as a team with 65 points, while Central followed with 58. Randolph-Henry finished in third with 34 points.

Raymond Alexander finished first in the discus event. Dion Graham won in shot put, Brian Blazkiewicz won both the 1,600-meter run and the 800-meter run and Brandon Scott won the 300-meter hurdle event.

In its first meet of the season on March 23, Central faced off against Amelia. Amelia finished first with 70 points and Central followed with 44 points.

Brandon Williams led the Chargers in the meet by winning both the shot put and discus events.

Scott finished first in the 110-meter sprint and the 300-meter hurdles.

Both girls and boys track teams will return to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Goochland High School for a meet against the Bulldogs and Randolph-Henry. The meet will begin at 4:30 p.m.

They will then travel to Amelia on Wednesday, April 20 for a 4:30 p.m. meet.
