Ty Eggleston, Victoria Elementary School fourth-grader, has been named the Lunenburg County Chamber of Commerce Student of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2015-16 academic year.
Eggleston received the award at the chamber’s meeting on Thursday at Mildred’s Meals in Kenbridge.
Eggleston was one of two winners of Farmville Newsmedia’s Junior Globetrotter contest.
In order to enter the contest, Eggleston had to write an essay explaining why he wanted to be a Junior Globetrotter.
He got to sit on the bench with the Harlem Globetrotters on Wednesday, Feb. 24, during their performance at Longwood University, and was featured on the front page of The Kenbridge-Victoria Dispatch March 2 edition.
“We are very proud of him,” said Ty’s mother, Brandi Eggleston.
“He (Ty) was very surprised. He didn’t have any idea. Mrs. (Dawn) Bacon and I did what we could to keep it a secret (from him).”
Eggleston has also recently been a featured weather reporter on Channel 8 reporting on a winter snowstorm.
“Eggleston is quite an ambitious young man,” VES stated in a release.
“He continues to go above and beyond in everything he pursues. He does well academically and is currently excelling on the baseball field.”
