“Life Ways,” an exhibit of oil paintings by Lunenburg County artist Eldridge Bagley, opens on Friday and will be on view at Glavé-Kocen Gallery in Richmond through July 1. While these works cover a wide range of subjects, they reveal the artist’s deeply rooted understanding of and his love for the country life.

In paintings like “Cedar Lights,” “Umbrella Morning” and “A Christmas Journey,” works inspired by personal experiences, viewers may perceive common threads that run through their own lives. Quiet interior scenes like “April Jonquils” and “Heirloom Quilt” provide a change of pace within a more intimate setting. Departure pieces in Bagley’s show include “Past Perfect,” a subdued rendering of old photographs illuminated by candlelight, and “Beach Music,” which depicts the delights of a relaxing day beside the ocean.

Glavé-Kocen Gallery is located at 1620 W. Main St. in Richmond’s Fan District. Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and on Saturday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. An opening night reception will take place on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and is open to the public.
