Former Lunenburg County resident Angie Dalton was recently recognized as an outstanding teacher in the “Thank a Teacher” Virginia Lottery campaign and received a free vacation as the grand prize winner.

The Kersey Creek Elementary School teacher won a four-day, three-night vacation.

Her name was drawn from nearly 5,000 teachers who entered “thank you” notes in the prize drawing. Now the special education teacher has a choice of taking a beach-lovers, mountain-lovers or wine-lovers vacation.

The “Thank a Teacher” campaign kicked off one week before National Teacher Appreciation Week (May 2-6) and lasted through May 13. During that three-week period, nearly 30,000 “thank you” notes were distributed by the Lottery to PTAs, and to the public from Virginia Lottery customer service centers and at retailer and consumer events. Virginians could use the blank cards to send a note to the teacher or teachers who’ve made a difference in their lives.

Dalton graduated from Central High School and is married to Keith Dalton, who is from Victoria.
