March on!

On Thursday, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) presented a permit to organizers of the civil rights re-enactment march allowing the walk.
This was an important step in making the re-enactment a possibility, and we think that this is great for our community.
Not only are organizers preparing an event that will take us back in time and reflect on how much has changed for the better, but the event is bringing the community together.
Organizations and agencies like VDOT, the sheriff’s office and state police are helping collaborate on the event, as well as the organizers and supporters of the march.
They are coming together and spending time as a group on their own free time.
They could be at home relaxing or watching television.
But, no, they are working together to bring the community a memorable event that showcases the county’s history.
We applaud all of the volunteers’ hard work they have shown thus far and encourage them in their final stages to persevere and keep moving in the right direction.
We appreciate the time you have put into this event and we appreciate you teaching our community about the historic Voting Rights March of 1965, which the re-enactment will commemorate.
Thank you for making Lunenburg County the community-minded place that it is.
