The Lunenburg Girls Softball Darlings All-Star team produced some dominant wins in the recent Dixie Youth District I Darlings All-Star Tournament in Kenbridge but had its run come to an end with a 10-6 loss to the Brunswick County All-Stars on June 20.

The LGS squad went 2-2 in the tourney, finishing fourth overall.

“I thought they did great,” said LGS Manager Daniel Medlin. “I’m very proud of them, each and every one of them.”

They opened the tourney with a 19-7 rout over the Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association All-Stars on June 17, as Medlin said they got the bat on the ball and played good defense.

On June 18, the LGS team faced Brunswick County for the first time and fell 19-10.

“That was a tough game,” Medlin said. “Hated to take a loss, but it is what it is. They were a good team. They out-batted us.”

The girls rebounded on June 19 with a 20-4 blowout of the Clarksville All-Stars.

“That was a great comeback game for us,” Medlin said. “We need that, boosted us back up.”

He described his team’s second meeting with Brunswick County as a great game but one in which better batting again decided the outcome.
