The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will close Dixie Bridge Road (Route 621) to through traffic between Route 1 and Long View Drive (Route 602) at the Mecklenburg/Lunenburg county line beginning Tuesday for replacement, according to a recent press release.

The structure is located over the Meherrin River. Construction is expected to be complete by the spring.

According to the release, during construction, drivers should follow the posted detour routes:

• Northbound Dixie Bridge Rd. (Route 621) — Take Route 1 north to Old Indian Rd. (Route 637) north back to Meherrin River Rd./Dix Rd./Dixie Bridge Rd. (Route 621).

• Southbound Dixie Bridge Rd. (Rt. 621) — Take Old Indian Rd. (Rt. 637) south to Route 1 south back to Dixie Bridge Rd./Country Club Rd. (Rt. 621).
