Grain of salt

Recently, we learned Lunenburg County Public Schools saw a decrease in Standards of Learning (SOL) scores in all but one academic category last year.

Some may be alarmed over this, some will call for improvement and some will look at that statement and judge the schools based on those scores.

I think we should not look at these scores and think the worst of the schools. SOLs are one type of test and not all students will respond well to taking them, since students are not all the same.

I think we should take the score decrease with a grain of salt and remember how good of an education our students are receiving.

They have teachers who care and show it by working hands-on with them.

We are lucky for the education our schools present to students in the area — and we must remember that.
