Kenston Forest School was recently selected as the Lunenburg County Chamber of Commerce business of the month.

The school is an independent, college preparatory school which strives to develop in each student the qualities of leadership, scholarship, service and good character in an atmosphere that stresses family values and Judeo-Christian ideals.

The school is fully accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), the Virginia Independent Schools Association (VISA) and the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS). The Early Learning program is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

In 1966, a group of interested citizens in Lunenburg and Nottoway counties organized the Lunenburg-Nottoway Educational Foundation, a non-profit corporation, which established Kenston Forest School, a private co-educational day school for grades 8-12. A year earlier, the Kenbridge Day School and the Blackstone Day School were opened for grades pre-school through seven.

The founders believed there was a need for such a school in the area and envisioned the two lower schools as feeders for the new upper school. Residents of the two counties, some without children, agreed to underwrite the establishment of Kenston Forest School.

The school provides a learning environment on its 79-acre campus. Kenston Forest is committed to excellence in education providing a challenging curriculum that allows for the differing learning styles and education needs of each student. There are many extracurricular activities, including various athletic programs available. The Early Learning Program is licensed by the Department of Social Services of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Kenston Forest will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year.
