Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) has once again been recognized as a “Great College To Work For.”

This is the eighth time the honor has been given to the college, according to a recent SVCC press release.

“Now in its ninth year, the Great Colleges to Work For program continues to provide vital data about employee engagement at colleges and universities across the United States. The partnership between ‘The Chronicle of Higher Education’ and ModernThink LLC has been bringing higher educational leaders valuable insights into fundamental workplace qualities since 2008,” the release stated.

“This year, 281 institutions took part in the program which surveys faculty and staff to determine the key factors that distinguish great colleges.”

SVCC was recognized in the category of work/life balance.

“Southside Virginia Community College is proud of its status as a premier place to work in the Southside Virginia region. We have built this reputation by fostering a college culture that promotes shared leadership, shared understanding and shared responsibility,” said Dr. Al Roberts, SVCC president.

“We invest in our human resources by providing quality professional development activities that allow faculty and staff to stay current and provide the best education for our communities. We encourage inclusive and transparent communication, promote and value diversity and support innovation, risk-taking and the benefit of making and learning from mistakes.”
