If you have paid attention to national and local news, or Facebook, lately, you probably haven’t missed coverage of clowns appearing near woods along the East Coast.

Now for some, this hasn’t hit close to home. However, it has been rumored that it has happened in Victoria.

Not speaking about Victoria, but some news sources — like the Washington Post — have reported people are dressing up like clowns in Southern towns and are trying to lure children into the woods.

This is alarming and confusing at the same time. Who would feel the need to dress up and do such? Why in the world has this started to happen in Southern towns, or at all in the U.S.?

We encourage all families to keep a close eye on their children, especially around dusk. Although there is no official proof of clowns hanging around town, we still should use caution so children in our community are safe.

We also encourage families to discuss what to do in a luring situation with their children, if they have not done so already.

Hopefully, the creepy clowns will stay far away from Lunenburg. But, in the meantime, let’s make sure we are prepared and stay on the lookout.
