Friday concluded Virginia College Application Week at Central High School, which is one component of the Governor’s 1-2-3 Initiative to provide high school students around the state the opportunity and the assistance needed to apply to a higher learning institution. The Initiative started with College Night held on Nov. 2 and Super FASFA held during Parent-Teacher Conference on Nov. 8. CHS Seniors had the opportunity to work with counselors each day that week to help them explore different schools, complete required essays, and finalize college applications. Many participating colleges also waived their application fee during this week. This fee waiver allowed students with financial needs to apply to more than one college. Juniors and seniors were also invited to attend informational sessions from Longwood University, Radford University, Virginia Tech, and Virginia Commonwealth University. A Liberty University representative talked to students one-on-one and unofficially offered many of them on-site admission.
