The Central High School varsity football team had two representatives on the 2016 All-Region 1A East first team, leading a group of nine Chargers that combined to receive 11 all-region selections.

After earning the Conference 42 Defensive Player of the Year honor, Central senior Raymond Alexander made the all-region first team as a defensive end.

“He’s earned everything he’s gotten,” Chargers Head Coach Will Thomas said. “Raymond is our best defensive player. Our defense really played well this year.”

Alexander recorded more than 90 tackles, including more than 20 tackles for loss, and four blocked kicks this season.

Central junior Keenan Anunay made the first team as a defensive back.

“Very well deserved also,” Thomas said of Anunay’s honor. “They got to where they just wouldn’t throw to his side.”

Anunay finished the year with six interceptions and more than 50 tackles.

Alexander made the all-region second team as a tight end. Also making the second-team cut were senior place kicker Ben Atkins, senior running back Malik Foster, senior linebacker Chris Fowler, senior defensive lineman Dion Graham and junior offensive lineman Jackson Parsons.

Chargers receiving honorable mentions included senior Kester Long, as both an offensive and defensive lineman, and junior Ben Spencer, as an all-purpose defensive player.
