Lunenburg Girls Softball (LGS) Commissioner Tony Matthews has announced a variety of dates related to the upcoming spring season and beyond.

The first days to sign up for the LGS springs season will be Feb. 4 and 18 at the Big Tee from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The next opportunity to sign up will be Feb. 25, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at the LGS field. Sign-up forms will be available at each sign-up session, and those interested can also print one of their own from www.LGSoftball.org.

Feb. 25 will also be a work day to help prepare the field, and it will also mark LGS’ first fundraiser of the season. Barbeque will be cooked, with pints selling for $7 and ready for pick-up at 4 p.m. at the concession stand.

“Please pass the word and you can send me a text or an email to pre-order,” Matthews said. “You can pay when you pick it up.”

The work day will start at 9 a.m., and Matthews said that with many hands, the workload should be light. He added that extra hands will be needed around 2:30 p.m. for packaging the barbeque.

The Dixie state meeting will be on Feb. 11 in Lynchburg, and Matthew said he should have more information to share afterward.

LGS Opening Ceremonies are set for April 8 at 6 p.m.

“We will be having games before and games after,” Matthews said. “We will also be having chicken plates at opening and for pick-up.”

The cost will be $7 per plate.

“If you would like to reserve a plate or two, just let me know,” Matthews said. “Otherwise, it will be first come, first serve.”

On April 30, LGS will hold its basket bingo fundraiser at the Kenbridge Emergency Squad building. Like last year, baskets will be themed, and there will be a large amount of prizes. Doors will open at 1 p.m. and bingo will start at 2 p.m. Food and snacks will also be available.

Details regarding district tournaments will be decided on within the next few weeks. State tournaments will begin July 14, and World Series tournaments will begin July 28.
