On serving the community

I consider it a public service to be in the position as managing editor of The Kenbridge-Victoria Dispatch and Farmville Newsmedia LLC.

I previously served in this role in a similar capacity for 12 months, working hard to keep our readers informed and up to date with news and events important to them.

In late summer, I decided to step back from the position, due to personal reasons. I worked as a senior staff writer for a few months, writing and photographing a lot, which I still love to do, telling people’s stories and connecting with the community.

About one month ago, an opportunity presented itself to me when then-Managing Editor Martin Cahn indicated his intention to return to South Carolina, his home, where his family is.

After careful and thoughtful deliberation, prayer and guidance from family and close friends, I decided to return to my calling.

In anything you do in life professionally, it’s paramount to love it. And I love and have a deep-rooted passion for public service and journalism. If you know me  — as many of you reading this do — you, know how much I love and respect people and this community.

This area is my home, and, if I have anything to do with it, I’m never going to leave this place. The Heart of Virginia is filled with good, salt-of-the-earth people, from The Falls, Victoria, Nutbush, Kenbridge and everywhere in between.

There’s no doubt that being charged with delivering the best and most informative news content to over 70,000 people in print and online is challenging. But with my very talented staff, we’ll do just that, bringing you objective, timely and informative news stories regarding subjects that are most important to you and your family and friends.

As a public servant, it’s important I hear from you regarding how we’re doing, and what’s important to you in terms of news content.

My email address is below. My direct telephone number is (434) 808-0622. I hope you’ll email and call me with story ideas, feedback and your opinion on what’s going on in your community.

Lastly, I offer my heartfelt thanks to Farmville Newsmedia Publisher Betty Ramsey for allowing me to serve you in such an important role in the community.
