Five volunteer fire departments responded to a house fire at 11792 Lunenburg County Road on Thursday in Victoria — one that’s now being investigated by the Virginia State Police.

The fire was reported at about 12:02 p.m.

Volunteers from Victoria, Kenbridge, Meherrin, Keysville and Chase City responded.

The home is considered a total loss.

Reports indicate a father and son had been living in the home just weeks prior to the fire before moving to Maryland. The father owned the home for several years and used to live there on permanent basis.

According to fire department officials, it took several hours for crews to get the fire under control. Fire crews have responded several times since due to the fire rekindling.

State Police fire investigators continue to investigate the cause of the blaze.
