Lunenburg County Public Schools will hold a public meeting Thursday to discuss the Corrective Action Plan the Lunenburg County School Board created with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).
The meeting will be held at Central High School’s Room 104 at 6 p.m.
The purpose of the meeting is to let the public know of the Corrective Action Plan, which was written in regards to the accreditation of Lunenburg’s schools.
According to Division Superintendent Charles Berkley Jr. said the school board met with the VDOE to create the plan on Dec. 16.
Berkley noted Central High School is accredited, but the three other schools — Kenbridge Elementary, Victoria Elementary and Lunenburg Middle School — were warned in mathematics.
Berkley said the plan consists of five corrective actions to help each school become accredited. According to Sidney Long, the division’s director of personnel, planned actions include implementing and monitoring a system for ensuring lesson plans are aligned in content and cognition to the Standards of Learning (SOLs), implementing and monitoring a system for ensuring lesson delivery is aligned on cognition to the SOLs, implementing and monitoring Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS), providing, implementing and monitoring professional development on co-teaching/collaboration and monitoring data analysis process.
“It could be corrected this year or it could take five years,” Berkley said of the changes.
Copies of the plan will be available at the meeting.
A budget hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. immediately following the meeting on the action plan.
